Fall Recgonition Assembly introduces Winter Spirit Week

The fall recognition assembly was held to recognize panthers of the quarter and to introduce winter spirit week. The assembly was hometown pride themed and emceed by Senior Jake Hammond and Junior Marshall Peterson. Girls soccer, girls and boys cross country, girls volleyball, girls swim and dive, and boys tennis were the teams that were recognized for their accomplishments. Washington State Senator visits SHS

Washington State Senator, Maria Cantwell, paid a visit to Tuck Gionet’s government class Monday, November 25.

Gionet decided that having Cantwell would be a great experience for his government classes to expand their knowledge of politics. “Since I teach government, it just seemed natural, plus she is Garret Clay’s aunt. How could you turn down one of your nephews, really the pressure was on Garret," said Gionet. READ STORY »

District to place two new levies on Febuary 11 Ballot

Promising changes could be coming to Snohomish schools as two new levies have been approved by the Snohomish School District Board of Directors to be put in the February 11 Ballot.

Proposition One is replacing a previous levy that was passed in 2010 and it provides more than 20 percent of the district’s budget for educational programs and daily operations. The Replacement Maintenance and Operations Levy funds the difference between what the state provides and what it actually costs to educate Snohomish students.   READ STORY »

Benefit concert and auction to be held at SHS

A benefit concert featuring the SHS Women’s Ensemble will be held at SHS on behalf of the Patrick Castro “Excellence in Vocal Music” Scholarship. Jaci Cummings, the choir teacher at SHS, will also be singing beside husband Joel Cummings at the event. READ STORY »

Powderpuff Game for Junior Class Fundraiser

The SHS Junior girls won the annual Powderpuff football game against the Senior ladies on Wednesday, October 1. This fundraiser for the Junior Class of 2016 raised over $1400. READ STORY »

Serpentine Route Change

Friday, October 3 there have been some changes to SHS’s 55th annual Serpentine. This year there will be a different route due to construction. “We didn’t have a choice there is construction going on between Avenue A and 2nd. The street is closed so we can’t go down it,” says the principal of SHS Doctor Beth Porter. Porter has taken precautionary measures to make sure the public is informed of the route change preventing confusion. READ STORY »

Homecoming Queen of 2014 is Announced

At the coronation assembly on Monday, September 29, Senior Brianna Ferguson was announced the 2014 Homecoming Queen by popular vote of the SHS students.

Ferguson’s astonishment was clear on her face as her name was called. “It was a complete surprise,” she said. “I’m still in shock. I was so happy and overwhelmed.”

Ferguson was escorted by Senior Jack McCunn, who has been one of her best friends since their junior year. READ STORY »

SHS's Homecoming Dance Highlights

Saturday, October 4, SHS threw its annual Homecoming celebration dance. This year’s theme was “The Enchanted Forest.” Many students dressed in semi-formal clothing where in attendance. “There were a lot of people. Maybe 200 on the dance floor. They were taking pictures, dancing and waiting in line,” says Senior Shane Villanueva.

There was a 15 to 20 minute wait to get into the dance, but it was worth it according to Villanueva. “When I got inside I went from excited to way more excited.” READ STORY »

A Senior is Chosen for the Mustang Give-Away

Kyra Skievaski won the annual Bickford Ford Mustang give-away at the Homecoming Football Game on October 3. Bickford has been giving a brand new Mustang to a senior with a perfect driving record through a draw for about 12 years. During the Homecoming game pep assembly, they randomly draw five seniors’ names. READ STORY »

Cast Chosen for SHS Fall Play

Senior Melly Gary landed the lead of Alice in this winter’s play Alice in Wonderland, during auditions, which were October 6-8. The auditions yielded the cast of over 30 students for the SHS winter play on October 9. The students who auditioned had to perform a one-minute monologue that was either comical or dramatic. The judges were SHS alumni Tori Cooper and the Drama advisor/director Dana Oppelt.  READ STORY »
