Class of 1956 Scrapbook Available in the Library

Not a lot of people have the dedication and devotion it takes to document their high school experience, let alone every year from third grade to senior year. One person, Betty Goldsbary, created a scrapbook that includes memorabilia from Machias Elementary, Snohomish Junior High, and Snohomish High School.

Scrapbooking became a hobby for Goldsbary over the years, and recently she donated her Class of 1956 book to the SHS library. READ STORY »

Snohomish District One Bid Mosies Over to SHS

All the Snohomish High School debaters are commenting on the Mount Cedarhomish Peakiak debate tournament happening on the 24. This is a major event for the debate teams across Washington because the highest placing students automatically go to the state tournament.  With this event originally planned to take place at Mount Vernon High School, and then moved to Cedar Park, then with Kamiak taking the event, which moved to Glacier Peak, the event is finally scheduled to take place at SHS. eBook Workshop eXtravaganza!

The Snohomish School District’s eBook program has made its way into Snohomish High School.

Electronic copies of books have become quite popular over the last five years, and with the hope of making libraries more accessible to teens and their families, the Snohomish School District began to implement an eBook program.

Volkert Volkersz, the librarian at Snohomish High School, was very enthusiastic about introducing the eBooks and audio books to students. READ STORY »

JROTC student participates in national marksmanship competition

Snohomish High School sophomore Ashley Wilkins has qualified to compete at the Civilian Marksmanship Program National JROTC Air Rifle Marksmanship competition in Phoenix, AZ. Wilkins started shooting as a freshman, totally unexperienced. She just wanted to be in JROTC to join the military.

The school also attended the qualification event last year, but they did didn’t do as well as they hoped, so they enlisted the help of Coach Zip from Oak Harbor. READ STORY »

SHS Student Wins Second Place at National Dog Show

Senior Christian Rutten won second place at the National Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Junior Showmanship competition on February 18. The Westminster, that has been running for 139 years now, is the largest and most prestigious dog show in the country and the winners achieve not only the valuable reputation of being the best in the world, but also a scholarship. Rutten received a total of $5,500 for getting into the top eight and then winning second place.

Rutten has been showing his golden retriever, Watson, since August of 2013. READ STORY »

Memorial for Beloved Snohomish Teacher

The life of Charles “Tuck” Edward Gionet III was celebrated with tears, laughs, stories, and many of his friends, family members, students, and community citizens in the Snohomish High School gym on Tuesday, August 18 after he died of cancer on August 8.

The service began with a presentation of the flag by seniors Jack House and Jon Kyle.

Charlie Lewis opened with a prayer, and Pat Ogden read 2 Timothy 4:6-8. READ STORY »

SHS's new additions

SHS began the 2015-2016 year with many new additions to the school, including 113 new students, two new classes, and eleven new teachers.

The new teachers, which were hired after the recent retirement of multiple teachers, range from math to English to PE teachers.

2015 Homecoming Court Announced

Chosen by the senior class, ten senior girls were selected Friday to represent SHS as Homecoming princesses.

A: “The people and the culture the people create. Other schools have a way different feeling to them. When we have new students, they say what a welcoming environment SHS has. We truly care about each other.

SHS Students Take PSAT at the top of A building

SHS Sophomores and juniors took the PSAT on Wednesday on the top floor of A building on October 14.

Students with classes on the top floor of A building were relocated to the Performing Arts Center or the library for their class period. Students who were taken to the PAC asked Officer Frati questions that they came up with. READ STORY »
