SHS Supports the Leukemia Fight

Orange filled the stands of Veterans Memorial Stadium on October 10.  No, Snohomish wasn't playing Monroe.  Instead, fans from both Snohomish and Cascade dressed in orange apparel to help spread awareness for Leukemia. The color orange represents support for community members and people who have the disease after CHS student Michael Alcayaga's passing in May from Leukemia. READ STORY »

SHS student becomes finalist in National Merit Scholarship Competition

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is having its 60th anniversary this year. Created back in 1955, the corporation is a non-profit organization that does not have government assistance. According to their website, their goals as a group are to identify academically outstanding U.S. high school students, to stimulate increased support in the educational system, and to provide efficient and effective scholarship program management for organizations that wish to sponsor college undergraduate scholarships. Annual Career and College Forum

Tuesday, October 28, SHS will be having its annual Career and College forum. The forum will be held in the gym during second period classes, and it will last for a total of 40 minutes.

The forum is especially important to the Senior class because students need to be thinking about filling out college applications at this time, as well as which colleges they plan to attend. It is not just a chance to see what schools are out there, but a chance to become affiliated with their representatives. READ STORY »

Jazz Solo Night showcases Crimson Singers

The Crimson Singers had their Jazz Solo Night October 15, which allowed members of the choir to perform their own interpretations of different songs coming from the jazz genre.

At the beginning of the school year, Jaci Cummings, the choir teacher for Crimson Singers as well as other choirs at SHS, assigned her students to pick a jazz song that they would like to perform at the Jazz Solo Night. Along with picking a song they could perform, they had to arrange it, adjust it to their vocal range, and select who they wanted as an accompaniment. READ STORY »

Marysvile-Pilchuck High School suffers after shooting

On Friday, October 24, tragedy struck Snohomish County. A freshman at Marysville-Pilchuck High School shot five fellow students, two of them being his cousins, during lunch.

So far, three of those involved have died, including the shooter, Jaylen Fryberg. Zoe Galasso died at the scene and Gia Soriano died in the hospital Sunday night.

MPHS has decided to close down for the week allowing students to grieve and the school to reconvene. READ STORY »

Following the tragic events that took place last Friday at Marysville Pilchuck High School, SHS and Jackson High students rallied together to show their support during the football game on October 27. READ STORY »

College/Career Forum provides information for college-bound students

The students of SHS participated in a College/Career Forum last Tuesday.

Freshman went to an assembly on coursework selection in the PAC. Seniors went to workshops to prepare them for life after high school. Sophomores and Juniors went to the cafeteria to meet college and career representatives in the gymnasium, which made up the bulk of the event. READ STORY »

SHS Sells T-Shirts For Breast Cancer Research

Students at SHS raised money for breast cancer research by selling t-shirts October 21-23.

The Panthers have always been supporters of cancer research, with past fundraisers such as “Cut it to Cure it”, which was a fundraiser that did haircuts for cancer. This year to raise awareness for breast cancer, ASB leadership sold pink t-shirts for ten dollars during lunches. The slogan: “Just Cure It” was printed on the front of the shirts. READ STORY »

SHS Art Club Annual Pumpkin Carving

Wednesday, October 29, Art Honor Society held their annual Halloween pumpkin carving event. Members showed off their artistic skills carving intricate faces and designs on pumpkins.

“There are many forms of art; this can be considered one of them,” said Freshman Paul Tippett. “This is my first time carving a pumpkin. I like the dig-it-out-with-your-hand strategy.” READ STORY »
