Donkey Basketball raises money for senior party

Farm smells and constant laughter filled the room last Friday night as Snohomish High School held the annual “Donkey Basketball” fundraiser for the senior class.

Blood drive success at SHS

Every year Snohomish High School hosts multiple blood drives so students can help victims of car accidents, cancer, and many other diseases. A single donation of blood from a student can save up to three lives.  This year's two day drive 170 pints of blood was collected.  Of those donations, 122 came from first time donors according to JROTC Instructor Capt. Spring Band Concert

Snohomish High School had it’s 'Early Spring' concert this Thursday in the PAC. The concert featured the four SHS bands: percussion ensemble, concert band, symphonic band, and wind ensemble. 

The night started with the Percussion Ensemble playing three pieces, including two Chris Brooks songs from Latin America. They were followed by the Concert Band, playing another three-piece set , and the Symphonic Band with three more songs. Mural Dedication Ceremony

Snohomish High School held its annual Night of the Arts last week with a special twist. There was a dedication ceremony welcoming the new mural painted outside the library as part of the night’s events. 

The mural consists of an array of images representing Snohomish, created by artist Dan Smith, stretching from the early times to current day.

“The mural represents the history of Snohomish from the last of the natives and early logging, very rapidly and has an enlarged image of the newly remodeled school” said Volkert Volkersz, SHS librarian. READ STORY »

Homecoming Queen of 2013 crowned

Senior Annie Rose Crookshank was crowned as the Homecoming Queen of 2013 at the Coronation Assembly this Monday.

“To be completely honest, I didn’t even think it was me,” Crookshank said. Upon winning, she forgot what was going on. After being prompted by Senior Shelby Garrison, who was sitting right beside her, Crookshank was able to receive her crown and the title of Homecoming Queen. “I thought that it was going to be Shelby,” Crookshank explained. ASB seeks replacements for Judicial Branch vacancy

ASB President Shelby Garrison began collecting nominees for the judicial branch officers for the junior and freshman class last week. Normally, there is only a need for freshman class judicial officers, but the student who formerly held the position decided to run for office.

ASB Adviser Vince Ivelia noted judicial officers serve for all four years of high school, and are elected during freshman year. They only lose the position if they run for a different office. READ STORY »

PSAT spots sold out

All 200 available spots for this Saturday's PSAT at SHS have been sold out as of yesterday.

The PSATs are there to help students prepare for SAT, a standardized test required by most four year universities for admission. READ STORY »

Skate for Change collections a success

The Leadership class ceased their collections for the Skate for Change charity last Friday.

Over 3,000 bags of supplies collected by SHS and Glacier Peak will be given to various locations for distribution among the homeless. They passed their goal.

Some of the supplies will go to Skate for Change chapters in Seattle and Spokane, while the rest will go to schools interested in starting their own Skate for Change chapters and impoverished areas of California. READ STORY »

Mr. SHS is back in season

On Tuesday, November 5th SHS boys will compete in front of the student body trying to find what it takes to be crowned Mr. SHS. “I like to describe it as a pageant show for the guys at SHS,” Junior Rachael Kearney said who is in charge of organizing the event. Three students from each class will be nominated by their peers to take part in the competition. Students have been voting this week eager to find out who will be representing their class.

There are three different segments of the competition; sportswear, talent portion, and fancy wear.    READ STORY »

Snohomish Aquatic Center has new manager

Chris Bensen has thirty years of experience managing several successful centers under her belt and she will be adding a few more now that she has accepted the position at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. Bensen accepted the job in August of 2013 and since then has been actively making plans to help the facility run to the best of its ability and make it an enjoyable experience for everyone in the community.
