Snohomish Aquatic Center has new manager

Chris Bensen has thirty years of experience managing several successful centers under her belt and she will be adding a few more now that she has accepted the position at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. Bensen accepted the job in August of 2013 and since then has been actively making plans to help the facility run to the best of its ability and make it an enjoyable experience for everyone in the community.

“It was this impressive facility and welcoming community that drew me to Snohomish,” said Bensen when she accepted the position. As the manager, her job requires that she oversee all operations, personnel, and maintenance that is happening within the center as well as represent the YMCA of Snohomish County in a positive manner.

The Snohomish Aquatic Center, which is planning on opening in January of 2014, has been carefully designed for 5 years and since June of 2012 the plans have been put into motion as construction initiated. The process involved many meetings and debates on how to complete the project that had been talked about since the closure of the Hal Moe Pool in Snohomish.

The plans feature three pools, including a competitive pool with a dive area as well as a section with 10 lanes near stands that seat 420 spectators. There is also a recreational pool which includes a warm-water therapy area, surf-simulation machine, lazy river and water slide. Along with these new attractions there will be many classes and events associated with the center including swim lessons, recreational swim times, surf lessons, diving, competitive swim opportunities and aquatic wellness classes.
