Powderpuff Game for Junior Class Fundraiser

The SHS Junior girls won the annual Powderpuff football game against the Senior ladies on Wednesday, October 1. This fundraiser for the Junior Class of 2016 raised over $1400.

The Juniors were the first to score a touchdown, but the score was close, eventually with the two scores being tied at 14-14. Both the Juniors and the Seniors were positive of their victory. Senior Noah Bomar was also certain that his class was going to win. “I think we are not only going to win, but we are going to dominate. This is our last hurrah.” Junior Powderpuff player Shawna Kruger said, “we are going to win because we have a lot of great athletes.” In the last half of the game, however, the juniors got one more six point touchdown, finishing the game with 20-14.

Junior football players Kobe McDaniel, Peyton Plucker, Nate McIver, Zachary Marshall, Derrek Johnson, Derick Devries and Senior football players Nick Nelson, Aiden Kutsch, Ben Dmochowsky, Alex Fairhurst, Connor Browne, Nathan Jacobson, and Bryce Lipke all coached the girls as they played flag-football.

Physical Education teachers Ken Roberts and Len Bone, as well as Physical Therapy/Health teacher Stephen VerHoeven refereed the game.

Other boys including Juniors Wyatt Butler, Mark Currier, Ben Coryell, Elliot McIntyre, Jeffrey Smith, and Seniors Peder Morrill, Casey Cummins, and Joseph Proffit acted as “cheerleaders” to encourage the crowds into a loud cheering battle between the classes, going as far as to wear cheerleading skirts and/or shirts.
