An Inside Look: Araceli Daza, 2017 Homecoming Queen

As Araceli Daza wakes up in the morning to the “The Circle of Life” from Disney’s “The Lion King” as her alarm, she “feels pumped up, even though you shouldn’t be because you’re waking up”. Araceli attends school as a senior, and goes to class like every other student. She attends a bunch of clubs, such as FCCLA, FBLA, Senate, and is a drum major for band. However, Araceli is a bit different than the rest of the student body, however. Not only is she vice president of the Senior Class, but she is part of the homecoming court.

”Is this a joke?" Daza said of her reaction when she found out about becoming part of the Court. Daza was “very excited” when she first found out. “So excited!” was Lindsay Turski, the FCCLA club adviser, when she discovered Daza was a queen nominee. She “[could not] have been happier” for her. Araceli has a good relationship with Turski since she joined FCCLA. “At first I was really quiet but she got me out of my comfort zone,” Daza said.

Awkwardly, yet joyfully smiling and answering the questions, Araceli claims to be an ambivert, as she loves to socialize because she gets a thrill from it. However, she “kind of want to be alone sometimes.”

Turski claims she is “definitely extroverted”. She has caught her yelling down the hall, full of energy as well. “She has a very unique personality,” says Turski, and claims she is “one of her favorite students."

Araceli loves the SHS band because  "it’s kind of the same people every year, and [Joe Boertmann] the band teacher is pretty fun.” As a future career, she wants to “do something in communications to build relationships or P.R. because I like posting about things. I’ve been in charge in different clubs and activities to get the word out because I guess I’m the loudest one in the club,” Daza says. “Something that gets me to talk to people in a non-creepy setting."

Araceli has a great smile, is kind-hearted, and has made a great homecoming queen. She loves to connect with people and build relationships with others. She has a unique personality and has lots of energy. That's why she was voted queen.
