Singin’ Praises for the 2016 Drama Spring Production “Singin’ in the Rain”

Once again, the SHS Theater Club pulled off an incredible performance with the classic musical "Singin' in the Rain," demonstrating spectacular choreography, realistic sets, convincing acting, and flawless singing and dancing.

The audience roared with laughter at the comedic personas of Cosmo Brown and Lina Lamont, played by juniors Stevie Jorgenson and Sarah Sapadin, while watching with awe and cheer at the incredible singing and dancing of seniors Braden Sigua and Kelsie Watkins acting the roles of Don Lockwood and Kathy Seldon.

Junior Grace Fenner (featured dancer) and senior Braden Sigua dance to "Broadway Melody".

Moving on from the challenges of opening night, the drama club smoothed out the bumps and hitches in the technical and transitional departments to turn the musical from great to spectacular. All the cast and crew showed up at the end for curtain call to be recognized for their outstanding input to the performance.

Seniors Lily Stevens, Sara Leeman, junior Taylor Odom, and sophomore Janelle Murphy, who played the Quartet, sophomore Cameron Horne who played the beautiful girls crooner, and junior Grace Fenner, who was a featured dancer, were all special favorites to the audience.

"It’s honestly hard to put into words how wonderful it is to be part of this production," said Watkins. "Looking out to the crowd on stage or at the TV screen in the back makes me feel overwhelmed with the support of our audience and the hard work of everyone who took part in this."

"Oh my gosh, [it’s been] by far the best thing I’ve ever done,"  Sapadin. "I want to be in Broadway when I get older, and it’s all been so big and so fun. These are very talented people who poured their hearts and souls into this production and we’ve had many blessings. #Blessings!"

"I was included a lot." said Jorgenson. "Everyone was very accepting and I could be myself. I am who I am and I get to be as passionate as I want without anyone judging."

"It’s been an amazing experience," said Sigua.

Performances will continue to go on through May on the 5th and 6th at 7:00 pm and on the 7th at 2:00 and 7:00 pm.
