Senior Mothers Tea

The Snohomish High School, Senior Mother Tea, was held May 6, in the Commons.   The Mother’s Tea was attended by over 150 moms and seniors.  The event provided seniors with the opportunity the begin celebrating an early Mother’s Day with their moms.  When the seniors and their moms arrived they were given the opportunity to have their pictures taken to commemorate the day.

Attendees were welcomed by the emcees, Jess Harris and Kincaid Norris, both juniors who serve as officers for their class.

Moms and seniors were treated to mini sandwiches, cookies, cake pops and fruit as well as tea, coffee, punch and water.  Fresh flowers and tablecloths decorated the tables.

The program showcased some of the talented seniors of the class of 2016, who sang and played the piano.  Senior, Braden Sigua spoke to the group.  He shared some childhood memories of his mom and growing up.  His speech provided some humor as well as some touching moments.  Braden ended his speech with an “I Love You Mom” and then shared a hug with her.

The emcees got the crowd involved with the entertainment by playing “What’s in Mom Purse?”   The object was to be the first to have six of the items called out.  Several in the crowd enthusiastically grabbed their purses and got ready to look for the first item called. When a potato was the first item call there were some laughs from the audience.  The winner of the game was rewarded with flowers and box of treats from Simply Sweet Cupcakes.  Prizes were also given out at random based on your ticket number.  The prizes were donated by McDaniel’s Do IT Center and Simply Sweet Cupcakes.

The program ended with heart-felt words from Spanish teacher Alina Fuentes.  She shared her memories of her mother and the difficulties shared by the family, but also overcoming the struggles they faced after immigrating to the United States.  She encouraged students to work hard be strong, remember where you came from and to tell your mom that you love her.
