Man Power vs. Horsepower

To celebrate National FFA Week, Snohomish High School decided to have a little competition- Man Power vs. Horsepower.

FFA week is time to bring awareness to FFA and its members.  Members show their pride by wearing FFA gear and their official blue and gold dress uniforms.  Members were also encouraged to share their FFA chapter’s accomplishments with the student body. Members of Snohomish FFA have participated in state and local competitions and have received awards and recognition for their participation.

In an effort to bring attention to their program, FFA members decided to put a twist on an age old competition. On Thursday, February 18, during both lunches, the Snohomish FFA was able to host a tractor tug of war.  The officers enlisted the help of Washington Tractor (a local supporter and sponsor of Snohomish FFA) and FFA advisors, Tracy Brown and Stacy Lischke.  For the event, a tractor was brought out onto the promenade for the tug of war.  Members of the student body were invited to band together and test their combined strength against that of the mighty John Deere tractor. In the battles that put student brawn against tractor horse power, it would be the horse power bringing home the victory.  Although the student body gave a valiant effort with 20 plus students pulling at a time, they were no match for the mighty green tractor.

Overall, the event was successful- even though the students were not.  It brought attention to Snohomish FFA, its members, and their accomplishments. It also provided the students with a glimpse into FFA and what one might expect to be a part of if they choose to join. As an added bonus, it brought many of the students together for a fun and exciting event that doesn’t happen on most other campuses.

Thinking you might be interested in joining FFA? One of the requirements is that you are enrolled in an Agriculture Science class like Vet Science, Animal Biology or Molecular Ag Biotechnology. FFA sends a big thank you to everyone who participated in the event, and was glad to see such a large involvement from the student body.
