House Full Of Talent

Annual Variety Show was in full swing in the PAC on Wednesday night, and was full of powerful performances at SHS. Once again, the students of Snohomish took the word Variety and ran with it, with performances ranging from a Masters of the Universe karaoke jam to a neon light show done on a pitch black stage. The performers reminded students that art comes in many forms, and every person on the stage Wednesday was enthusiastic and full of life.

There was no shortage of spectacular displays of physical skill onstage, with possibly the most ripped looking highschooler I’ve ever seen tearing off his shirt and proceeding to do a full handstand on top of two desk chairs. Shortly after, several talented girls recreated what I assume was the Norman conquests through contemporary dance.

Sophomore Faith Stelter and junior Johnathen Johnson, cousins and masterminds behind a mind boggling glow stick performance, revealed that the music played during their show was not the jam that they had rehearsed to and had been played accidentally, leaving them with no choice but to improvise onstage. Luckily, the cousins were adept Glovers (not the Lethal Weapon kind), a hobby in which they wear gloves with light up tips and use their hands to create glowy light shows.

Sophomore Karl Houtman did a stand-up routine, and had the audience on a rollercoaster of emotions as he told them of his late night ice-cream outings and their occasional perils. Both hilarious and informative, Houtman touched on the important aspects of choosing the right midnight snack.

The stand-out performance of the night, and winner of the show, was senior Katelyn Johnson and Garrett Lepoidevin's mash-up of Justin Bieber and Adele’s recent billboard hits. The song featured Lepoidevin on piano and Johnson embodying the best of both singers as she had seen on a performance on The View. Surprisingly, Johnson said that she was not in fact a past American Idol winner, and that Lepoidevin and she didn’t even do this often. Johnson had always wanted to perform onstage.
