Explorer Falls Review

Explorer Falls, otherwise known as Wheeler Falls, is a little-known waterfall just outside of Snohomish. It is an easy mile walk down a logging road to the base of a 50-foot horsetail formed waterfall. It is located near Lake Roesiger, off of Monroe Camp Road.

Parking is very easy, and the hike begins right at the gate. The logging road is lightly used and had been spoiled recently on the turn off to the falls to ensure no motor vehicles near the falls. Obstacles are easy to over come. The road also follows the border of the Lake Chaplain Watershed, which supplies the City of Everett with water.

At the waterfall, there is a cave to the right which locals call "Hobbit Hole." It’s a little bit of a climb to see inside, but it is definitely worth it. At the base of the falls, there is a switch back trail to the right where you can hike to the top of the falls. Hikers will find more trails and a nice place to have a picnic. Locals call this area "Top of the World" because there is a beautiful view.

There are Search and Rescue teams using the area for practice and training. If it is the right season, you may pass a logging truck or two.

This is a kid-friendly and dog-friendly trail. The hike is extremely easy with little elevation gain.

This is a great hike for anyone who has a young family that wants to get outdoors. It's also a great trail for someone looking for a challenging run.
