Bring On More Offensive Plays

The Seahawks may have lost on Sunday night, but their season is far from over. Although they lost a divisional game to the Cardinals there is still time for the Seahawks to make the playoffs. To win the division it would require quite a turnaround in the Seahawk’s season but also the Cardinals losing most the rest of their games. Seattle’s best shot at the playoffs has now become an NFC wildcard spot.

According to ESPN the Seahawks chances of making the playoffs is still at 42.3 percent, only 1.7 percent less prior to losing to the Cardinals. One thing is for sure though, our offense needs to be on the field much more than they are now. Seattle is 0-10 since 2012 when allowing 25 points or more a game. In order for the Seahawks to win, our offense must score points early in the game. As close as the score was last Sunday at the end of the game, I believe the Seahawks still need to make serious changes to their offense if they still want to be competitive.

In order for us to see the same defense we have in the past, our offense needs to get them off the field and give them a break. Seattle’s defense was on the field far more than their offense. The offensive line is usually the center of attention, and even Coach Carrol admitted that he had hoped that the offensive line would be performing better by week five.  Fans also turn their fingers towards offensive coordinator Darrel Bevell in regards to their play calling. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin disagrees with the fans on this one. “They’re not watching the film. I don’t know what film they’re watching if they’re saying Darrell Bevell’s the problem, because there’s plays out there. We just have to get to them. And we consistently have been inconsistent at getting to them. There’s not much more that Darrell Bevell can do. He’s calling good plays. We just have to execute," said Baldwin.

It’s clear that there are problems with Seattle’s offense. It’s now just an issue of discovering and fixing them. If Seattle wants to stay in playoff potential, these issues need to be addressed much sooner rather than later, regardless of what they are. The season is coming to an end and they cannot afford to lose more games. The offensive line needs to give quarterback Russell Wilson more time and the Seahawks need to follow up by executing their plays on a regular basis.
