SHS and Glacier Peak lose tough meet against Lake Stevens

SHS's swim and dive meet against Lake Stevens was held yesterday, January 7, 2015 at the Snohomish Aquatic Center. The two teams were excited and prepared for their meet, thanks to Coach Rob Serviss and Assistant Coach Christy Taylor.

They have been practicing for about a month and a half now to prepare for each of their meets.

“All of their skills have really improved a lot, especially Coach Christy’s group! They all were new to swimming this year and they are all doing very well,” said Serviss.

Before the meet all the teams have about a half hour to warm-up and stretch before the first out of 12 events starts. They all practice the strokes that they are going to swim at the meet. The first three lanes are used by SHS and Glacier Peak. Then lane four, five and six are used for Lake Stevens. For the divers, they practiced the dives they were going to do in the meet.

The judges for the diving portion were tough. They were very hard to please. Students from both teams, that had dived previously, are eligible to sign up as judges. The divers rate each dive on a scale from one to ten. Each diver did a total of six dives each, but only the varsity divers could dive at the last meet.

When swimmers get ready to swim they go check a list to prepare for the time that they get in the pool. The list has every event that each of the swimmers will participate in. Between races all of the swimmers socialize, eat and drink lots of water. Each swimmer usually swims a maximum of four events.

SHS and Glacier Peak were defeated this meet. They are still strong and will make it the next meet against Monroe at the Snohomish Aquatic Center on January 8, 2015.
