GSA: A Place Where You Can Be You

The Gay/Straight Alliance is for everyone; you don’t have to be gay to join. It's a club to help prevent bullying the gay. A lot of gay people get bullied for being different, but really, they’re not different; they're just attracted to the same gender. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

The members of GSA want people to know how much bullying hurts since it makes gay people look down on themselves. It's not like they can just wake up one day and be straight. That’s not how it works. I'm in GSA because GSA is a place where everyone is welcomed. It’s for lesbians, gay males, or for straight members, like myself.

When I moved here, I have never heard of such a place. I lived where gay people were frowned upon. I still always had a heart for gays, since I realized that gay people are just like you and me - human. Making fun of a person for liking the same gender as themselves is wrong. I think it’s natural. They were just born that way.

The people in GSA they hide themselves from the world because their scared that if they let people know about who they are, then they will be bullied. GSA is trying to help them realize that they cannot hide forever, and it’s time to show people that being gay is a wonderful thing. Every Thursday, either after school or during panther period, GSA meets. I go in there, and even if I’m having a bad day, GSA brightens my attitude because all I see is smiling and laughing.

GSA is a place to be yourself. You don’t have to be that one girl or boy in the corner not talking. Everyone in GSA has a turn to talk. We talk about how each person's day is going, how hard that math test was that morning, and how cute everybody’s outfit is that day.

I think that GSA is a great place, and that students should come visit.
