Generation Kind Club

Many people have experienced bullying at some point in their life, no matter the age. Coming from experience, a Snohomish High School student, Senior Bonnie Greer, is making a change.

Bonnie was very open when sharing her experiences as being the bully throughout some younger years in middle school. She shares about how it comes from yourself and your insecurities, making it hard to enjoy other people when you are not even happy with yourself. She admits that she had to do a lot of growing and becoming happy with herself to become better friends and not judge anyone, after going through some years of high school with hardly any friends at all.

The new club at Snohomish is called “Generation Kind,” it is all about changing the teen culture starting with the students themselves. She is doing this by providing and sharing different viewpoints and having a safe place for these realizations to begin happening. They are trying to take a different view point on bullying by proving help and advice on trying to change yourself but not telling students what they are doing wrong, they leave it open for them to make the changes themselves, they are just there to help them when needed.

Committee leaders include students from all classes and grades that are interested, that way we are getting all ages involved and having someone there to carry on the club in the years following when the seniors are gone.

By having this club it is hoping to carry on that inspiration everyone feels right after assemblies, but continue that spirit throughout every day. They have it in hopes to build students self-confidence within themselves and learn to respect themselves so they can begin respecting others.

Bonnie is hoping this club begins to spread throughout the middle schools and even elementary schools. In hope to start helping kids while they are younger to start learning and developing more self-confidence and self-respect, and also developing respect for their friends and peers as well.
