Alice: A "Wonder"ful Production!

The Snohomish High School Drama Club has done it again with yet another tremendous production. Their modern rendition of “Alice in Wonderland” is both engaging and quite entertaining.

The play is a perfect balance of the timeless Disney movie and the nineteenth century novel written by Lewis Carroll. With several short, dynamic scenes, the play flows quickly and smoothly. Packed with loud outbursts and fits of giggles, everyone in Wonderland is mad with excitement: and it really shows!

All of the actors delivered a spectacular performance opening night. Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, played by Senior twin sisters Olivia and Rachel Verrill, sent the audience into hysterics with perfectly synchronized mannerisms and a fantastic rap scene. Senior Marshall Peterson was absolutely bonkers as the Mad Hatter, embodying the Hatter’s careless swagger and madness with impressive accuracy. Finally, Senior Melly Gary commanded the stage as the seemingly demure Alice, running through her Wonderland daydream.

The Wonderland set is quite impressive, with many bright and bold colors. During a few scenes, huge artfully crafted mushrooms rise toward the ceiling, leaving the audience to feel as if they are only two inches tall. The corresponding lighting changes throughout the production create several mood changes in keeping with the chaotic storyline.

The SHS Drama Club did a fantastic job producing “Alice in Wonderland.” Hats off to all involved. Make time in your schedule to view this play. It is well worth the trip to the Snohomish High School PAC!
