Ways to Save and Acquire Money for Holiday Shopping

The Holidays are approaching quickly, and SHS students need to start thinking about the purchases that will be made. Without money saved for buying presents, we could be scrambling to make a few dollars before the splurge at the mall, or we risk spending our entire savings online. Here are a few quick and easy ways to make and manage money:

1. Get a Job

In order to save money, you’ll need to make some first. The most proficient way of doing this would be to look for a job in the community. Check to see what places are hiring and send in an application.

2. Work Around the House

Some of you may not have the time for a part time job, so simply offering to do things around the house for your parents is another way to make some quick cash.

3. Become a Personal Assistant

The job of a personal assistant isn’t necessarily as official as it sounds. The job requirements for a personal assistant are usually small things like mowing the lawn, feeding animals, or going out and buying groceries for people that either work too much, or are just elderly and looking for some help. Post up flyers around your community, or even offer to help your neighbors.

4. Offer to Tutor

If you think you have the smarts and the free time on hand, offer your intelligence to those that have a little more difficulty understanding school work. Students will pay by the hour for just a little help on their classes.

5. Sell Some Things

Unwanted clothes, old video games, or toys you don’t need any more are just a few things you could sell in order to make money. Let your friends know you are selling on social media, or even make an ad on poshmark.com for some fashionable clothes you’re looking to get off your hands.

6. Set Up a Savings Account

Now that you’ve found some ways to make money, you’ll need to begin saving. Setting up a savings account at your family bank is a convenient way to keep your cash safe. When your money is sitting in your wallet, often times it is difficult to avoid spending. If a portion of the money you make every week goes directly into your savings then it will be safely stored away and ready when you need it to shop.

7. Make a Budget

Now that you’ve saved money, having financial discipline is very important. Decide how much money you NEED to spend each week on necessities, and then the rest can be used for buying gifts for the holidays!

After reading these tips and ideas, you should now be fully capable of making money and saving some for holiday shopping.
