Snohomish Boys Take the "W" Over Mariner

In a close battle, the Snohomish Panthers Boys basketball team finished on top of Mariner High School 59-55 in last night’s game.

Although the first few minutes of the game were rocky, the Panthers didn’t let that faze them. After a few minutes had passed, the Panthers trailed 11-0 to the Marauders and from there Mariner soon found out that Snohomish was not a team to be taken lightly.

The first quarter ended with the Panthers ahead 17-15, and by the time the buzzer signaled halftime Snohomish was up 35-21.

Collin Kane, a six foot 9 inch senior at SHS, contributed 21 of those points in the first half and finished the game with a total of 35 points. Kane was the top scorer in last night’s game and finished with six  rebounds. Senior Zak Carlson also scored nine points with nine rebounds for Snohomish and Junior Kobe McDaniel added eight points to the final score.

Erwin Dzeko scored a team-high of 24 points and five rebounds for the Marauders.

Even with a new game plan the second half, the Marauders added aggressiveness wasn’t enough to trump the Snohomish boys. Mariner may have outscored the Panthers 34-24, but even that wasn’t enough to make up for the flat performance in the beginning.

Snohomish will take on Shorecrest Saturday at Bothell High School at 6:30 p.m..
