Fun things to do on Winter Break

For those of you students who plan on staying in and watching Netflix through your whole winter vacation, here are some quick tips for some fun, useful, and inexpensive things you can do instead!

1. Go ice skating with friends. Comcast arena has a public ice rink, it’s close to Snohomish and it’s inexpensive. This is the perfect winter activity because you only have to be cold for an hour.

2. Swim and play at the new Snohomish Aquatic Center. During winter break the recreational pool, slide and flow rider is a great way to spend some time. Check the website for details regarding cost and exact times. They have a lot of fun events planned during winter break, along with other activities you may be interested in.

3. Go for a bike ride on the Centennial Trail. With numerous places to park and start from, this will help burn off any extra holiday calories.  Snohomish is a great place to do these things and we are fortunate to have this trail. If you adventurous and have a lot of energy, you can bike the entire 29 mile trail and back. Of course, make sure you allow for sunset, you wouldn’t want to get stuck out in the dark because this would take several hours.

4. Take a trip out to Bellevue Botanical Gardens. In the evening, all the gardens are lit up with beautiful decorations of Christmas Lights.  While you’re there, go check out Snowflake Lane at Bellevue Square.

5. Lord Hill park offers great hiking and running trails close to town. Get out and see nature. It’s a great place to walk your dog and if you make it to the view point, it’s very peaceful.

6. Put together a list of New Year’s resolutions. Whether you want to do better in school, friendships, exercise, etc. This is a good time to reflect on what you want to accomplish this next year.

7. If you are a junior or senior, this is the perfect time to go tour colleges. You won’t be rushed and since school is not in session, you might be able to get a better feel for it without all the chaos. On the other hand, it’s a good idea to see what it’s like in session too. This might help you narrow down your decision and can return a second time before committing.

8. Spend time with family. Many of us will be heading off to college. Make sure you spend quality time with loved ones; the rest of the school year will go quick. Play family games and involve them in your activities.

9. Go look for a job. There are lots of seasonal positions right now and it’s a good way to start establishing employment, earn some money, and potentially meet some new friends.

10. Get in the holiday spirit, make Christmas cookies, sing fun songs, make hot chocolate, drink eggnog or apple cider and go caroling; enjoy!  Most importantly be safe so we see you next year!
