Danyka Tagg

With all smiles and a caring heart, SHS Senior Danyka Tagg has a talent that most wouldn’t suspect. Peers walking throughout the halls see this student in the yearbook room and in the PAC every once in a while for Jam Club, but this girl does a little more than that after 2:12 when the bell rings. Being a leader for the yearbook, Danyka is great at editing and taking pictures to help represent her school.

"Danyka Tagg is an amazing person and the things she does outside of school are incredible. She inspires me and got me to do conventions. Danyka and I are actually attending Deck the Hall Ball on Tuesday," said Senior Cyrena Sandoval, a close friend of Danyka's since their freshman year.

Tagg has a hobby not expected from a 17-year-old in high school. Not only does Tagg have a keen eye for music, she also enjoys running the plays held at SHS. Being backstage when the curtain closes, Tagg makes sure everything runs smoothly.

Ever since her sophomore year, Tagg has had multiple positions in Seattle with various music production companies. From being a critic and writing opinions about bands one weekend, to hosting a major music event the next, Tagg definitely has her work cut out for her. By working with many different music companies she has been involved in Sasquatch, Bumbershoot, The End and SXSW (South by Southwest) including many more. Stating that she is “currently working with the Vera Project," Tagg is usually responsible for steering an event or just working 3-4 times a month. Steering could refer to multiple things like managing bands, posting set lists, making sure bands go on stage at the right time, or even running the front door.

It all started at the City of Music Career Day. Tagg went to this event in Seattle with high dreams in hopes of getting a job. Beginning with volunteering at the Vera Project, the career day led her to working at festivals and steering the shows.

In her free time, she loves going to concerts and shows. She also is in charge of writing up articles about past shows she has supervised. In the future Danyka would like to keep working in the music industry. “I want to become an intern for Sub Pop or Bumbershoot,” she said.

Danyka stated that the reason why she does this is that “[she loves] working with people who are passionate about music and involving youth in the industry. Mainly because a lot of the businesses [she] volunteers with supports youth getting involved in the music industry in Seattle.”
