Are Apps Helpful?

iPhones are always being used and it’s all for the apps. There is 1.2 million apps available to the U.S. right now. In 2013, there were only about 100,000 apps total in the app store. But the U.S. isn’t the only place iPhone apps are popular. They are popular all around the world.

There are different kinds of apps; educational, games, social media, etc, but what is the point of an app? Are they actually helpful? We use these apps because they are addicting and fun. They are also interesting. The apps used to communicate and find gossip are available too. We use these apps every day of our lives, but are these apps helpful or just a waste of our time?

Some apps can be helpful. Such as the apps that the Apple Company already programmed on their products, before people purchase them.

“They can be useful such as a calculator and a GPS app, sometimes a stopwatch as well,” says Freshman Kayla Kulbacki.

The apps that help contact people such as Messaging and FaceTime are apps that are already programmed onto the iPhone. These apps are useful, but they can be unnecessary or unsafe. For instance, talking on the phone when you are supposed to be working, or texting while driving.

Some apps are just a waste of time. For example; Flappy Bird. This is a pointless game where you tap a screen to make a bird fly in between pipes. I think this game is a waste of everyone’s time. A lot of people spend so much time playing these games.

“Flappy Bird is not a useful app. It is a very stupid game. It’s so pointless,” says Freshman Kaitlin Anderson.

Children who have grown up with technology would not be happy without it. If all technology were to disappear kids might be at risk of having depression. They use these useful apps and become so addicted that they can’t live without it. Some apps help kids and teach them things, such as the apps that show kids how to count and read, but other games are a waste of their time.
