SHS Varsity Volleyball takes Wesco Title

SHS's Varsity Volleyball team took the title of Wesco Champions after their win against Mariner High School on October 29, 2014. After Lanesha Reagan, the number one hitter in the state and last year’s star player, graduated from SHS in 2014, fans wondered how good the Varsity team would be without her.

The team succeeded in more ways than one. Fans came out to every game, home and away, and showed Snohomish pride by cheering with every point. The team showed dedication and a passion for the game throughout the season. “Our team functioned really well together this season. We had a lot to prove and I think that being first in league showed just how hard we worked to get there,” says Senior Gabriella Edmark, defensive specialist and co-captain of the team.

The team has many traditions that they practice before each game. "We always have a pre-game dance party in the locker rooms at away games and for every game we have a team talk and then come together to pray," says Edmark.

Senior Kendle Valade-Nunez, starting setter and co-captain, says that this season's team was more than just a team, they were a family. "I love my team! They are extremely dedicated and hardworking, we all get along so well. It has been almost completely drama free. We all love the game and we all have a common goal and that is to win and play our game the only way we know how. We did really well this season and it was really fun! I'm really proud of my team," says Valade-Nunez.

This team won a total of 13 games this season and only lost one, becoming the number one team in the district. Throughout the season, every player on the team put their heart on the court and rose to the occasion. There wasn't just one star player, there were 13.
