The Benefits of the SHS Library

The internet has impacted many things in our world, and for students, an area that has been impacted greatly are the libraries.

The internet has changed the way we can read and checkout books from libraries. For example, eBooks are available for checkout at the Snohomish Public Library, along with audiobooks. Audiobooks will be available soon for our library on campus, and possibly also eBooks, according to the SHS Librarian Volkert Volkersz.

Internet access has also changed the way we can study. “[K]ids would pull out books and books and books and now most of those reference tools are available online.”, said Volkersz.

In addition to eBooks and audio books, the Sno-Isle Snohomish library offers a variety of homework help for teens, all for free.

Through HelpNow, a link on the Snohomish Library webpage, there is free online tutoring seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Students can send in an essay, and it’ll get corrected and sent back by tutors who were trained by Brainfuse, have a four year degree, and prior experience.

There are databases with information for nearly every subject (History, English and Literature, languages, math and physics, science and social studies). You can find full text eBooks and primary documents, encyclopedias, and online reference books. According to Snohomish Librarian Grant Perrigo, these data bases are a great resource that pulls information together.

Seniors can get college essay help, and even take SAT practice tests using the LearningExpress Library link on the Snohomish Library website under “teen."

All of the above helpful resources and more is available online on the Snohomish Library website, http://www.sno-isle.org/teens/homework

But not only are they online resources for teens, there are multiple events held by the library. There’s a writing club, called “Write Wednesdays." Writers can go to strengthen their skills or bring their writing to read or they can listen to others. Crafty Thursday meets every second Tuesday of the month for a new craft project.
