SHS girls basketball loses against Shorecrest

SHS struggled for the win against Shorecrest Wednesday, December 11, making for an intense basketball game.

During the first half, SHS fell behind, often scrambling for the ball and occasionally tumbling to the ground. The odds didn’t look good for SHS by half time, but when the buzzer signaled the third quarter, SHS came in full force.

The ball was dribbled up and down the court in a jumble of fast passes and quick catches and before the audience knew it the score was tied 12:12. From that point on the leading score continuously changed making the game a thriller.

The last three seconds remained on the clock with Shorecrest in the lead by just two points. SHS started with the ball, passing it down the court from player to player. When it reached Senior Callie Hardwood, she prepared to make a three-point shot that would determine the fate of the game. “I felt a lot of pressure and I didn’t want to let my team down,” Harwood said.

Hardwood shot the ball frantically in order to beat the buzzer, but she missed. The ball bounced off the rim and the buzzer sounded. “The most intense part of the game was Callie’s three-point shot,” said Senior Bailey Armbruster, a member of the team.

The final score was 35 to 38, a very close game, but the lose didn’t discourage players. “I was disappointed with the loss, but it was a non-league game,” said Hardwood.
