Student athletes sign NLI

Five Snohomish High School student athletes attended National Letter of Intent Signing Day on Thursday, November 15. There are a total of eight student athletes who are committed, but three of them are signing at a later date: girls volleyball player Lanesha Reagan, and boys lacrosse players Jarrett Toy and Davyd Powell. Students who did attend were Seniors Jennie Winston, Bailey Seek, Katlyn Purvis, and Trysten Melhart from girls softball, and baseball player Haakon Lande.

The reasons each student chose their colleges varied. “I chose the University of Washington because I’ve wanted to go there since I was a little girl and I love the coaches and other girls there,” Melhart said. “It wasn’t too difficult because my dad wanted me to go there since this whole thing is my dream.”

Melhart’s scholarship will cover 40 percent of her college tuition and said that she might choose psychology as her major.

Lande chose Washington State University and his scholarship will cover 55 percent. He said that the University of Washington was interested too but never sent an offer. Lande is choosing engineering as his major and says that if he has the chance to be a professional he will take the opportunity. “I chose WSU because it was a very good scholarship and they sent it to me early and I just wanted to get it out of the way," said Lande. Lande also said he and his dad sat down and talked about it, and they both thought it was good for him to go there.
