Staff wears "Gionetism" t-shirts in support of teacher battling cancer

Last Friday the teachers of A building were seen sporting red t-shirts emblazoned with “Gionetisms”. Along with many other teachers of the school, this group donned the shirts in support of Tuck Gionet, a government teacher at SHS, who was recently diagnosed with esophagus cancer.

The shirt production was headed up by Ben Doucette, a marketing teacher at SHS, who made the shirts with the help of his DECA classes. “We wanted to do something special for him, and this open support seemed like the perfect idea,” said Doucette.

Along with the “Gionetisms” the shirts had a replica of Gionet’s typical tie which he has worn every day to school; no exceptions.

Besides the shirts, the DECA officers created a sort of care package for him. Doucette said that, “we went into the DECA store and got a gym bag and some clothing items and put his name on them.”

This week is Gionet’s first week of chemotherapy and hopefully he can enter that knowing that the entire community supports him in his battle against cancer.

Gionet was very appreciative of the support and said that he was "very touched by the support of his fellow teachers."
