Mr. SHS is crowned

Snohomish High School held “Mr. SHS” at the schools performing arts center. Mr. SHS is a competition held for male students nominated by their peers. Seniors: Alex Sapadin, Marco Cordova, Easton Lemos, Juniors: Marshall Peterson, Connor Thompson, Brendan Sunagel, Sophomore: Gavin Bullock, Freshmen: Logan Endmark and Kaden Mcdaniel were nominated for Mr. SHS. The boys performed an introduction, came out in their choice of sportswear, showcased a talent, and they each were asked a different question then ended with fancy attire.

Junior Marshall Peterson entered as Aladdin and was accompanied by others dressed up as the characters in the movie. The crowd really enjoyed the Disney theme of his entrance. Peterson’s entrance included singing, acting and an abundance of fun outfits. Peterson played the part of “Prince Ali,” and as he came out the song Prince Ali played.

Popular song, “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus was used to act out Cordova’s sportswear skit. Tonsgard, played the part of a victim of bullies. Many other boys pretended to bully Tonsgard throughout the skit. Cordova came out as the lyrics said “like a wrecking ball,” and saved Tonsgard from the bullies.

During the interview part of Mr. SHS each contestant was asked one question. Thompson was asked “what is your dream job and why?” and his response was “probably to be a pro pitcher in the MLB.” Sunagel said his ideal date required "for [him to have a girlfriend]," and that he would "pick her up at seven or eight, take her to a nice movie, maybe a carnival ride? And be home by ten."

The audience enjoyed all the contestants’ talent acts. McDaniel lip sanc to Roar by Katy Perry and was surrounded by numerous people dressed up as animals. The crowd was very impressed with Edmark's performance. Edmark sang a romantic song that he wrote himself. After performing, many girls screamed for him. Lemos performed fire poi but replaced the fire with glowing lights. His performance had the crowd in awe.

The participants had the option of picking who they wanted to be escorted by. Sunagel decided not to have an escort and he said it was “because [he] didn’t feel like it was necessary to have an escort [for Mr. SHS] because [he] felt like [he] needed to look perfect for the occasion.” Sapadin was escorted by his girlfriend, Madeleine Hodges. Bullock, was also escorted by his girlfriend, Shawna Krueger. He said that “she was a much better dancer than [him].”

After all the events, the competitors lined up on the stage. As the crowd created their own drum roll by stomping their feet and hitting their hands on their laps, Cordova and Sapadin tied for second place. After the crowd applauded, Peterson was announced Mr. SHS for 2013-2014.
