Changes in Kusler's

A piece of history in Snohomish is now changing as the local Kusler’s  compounding pharmacy sold its retail prescription business to Rite Aid as of November 1, 2013.

The difference may not be evident to some, but for loyal customers it is a big change after having been with this pharmacy for so many years. The news came as a shock to many locals such as Colleen Hunt, who said “It has been very inconvenient. As a customer I don’t want to go to another pharmacy. I liked having a homey place, but I guess that isn’t going to be happening.”

The reasoning behind the decision was not one of money but of simply moving on into the world of retirement and the owner felt that this was just a good time to make this transition.  They aren’t going to leave the community or the pharmacy world entirely, just slow things down to help them ease into this new phase for them.

The change entitles that Kusler’s may now only distribute compound drugs, which are different from prescription drugs in that they are altered versions of them. The pharmacist themselves alter them to fit the needs of the individual. They often times have the same active ingredients as the brand name, but can differ in strength, inactive ingredients, and what form they are in.

With fond memories in mind of Kusler’s quality service and personalized experience customers have been reluctant to pick up their things and move on. But with heavy feet they have been cleaning out their accounts and transferring their information to the other pharmacies, such as Rite Aid, Walgreen’s, and Bartell Drugs.

“I had great experiences at Kusler’s. They were privately owned and wonderful and I felt like family while there. I have never had any problems up until now,” Hunt said.
