SHS cheer joins Sea Gals in support of Breast Cancer

The SHS cheer team performed at halftime of the Seahawks game in front of over 70,000 people at CenturyLink Field last Sunday. They got this opportunity because the girls submitted an audition tape and were selected based off their dancing ability.

Some of the other high school cheer teams that performed were Issaquah, Liberty, Todd Beamer, Garfield, and Newport. The purpose of the halftime performance was to honor breast cancer survivors since October is breast cancer awareness month. “It was the best experience of my life. I was so honored that I got to help support breast cancer awareness in such a huge way,” Senior cheerleader, Tawni Tamarra said.

To begin with, all high school cheer teams and the Sea Gals performed a dance together. Then, each high school would perform their own dance routine. After that, the Sea Gals performed their own dance routine in front of all the fans. Lastly, all the cheerleaders would begin a sideline cheer that later transitioned into a breast cancer symbol made up of all their pink pom poms.

“[The experience] was indescribable, the crowd was unbelievably loud and supportive,” cheer captain, Annie Rose Crookshank said.
