Panthers Fall Short on Senior Night

The Snohomish Panthers lost to the Mount Vernon Bulldogs 20-10 after an intense football battle last Friday night at SHS. The panthers spent most of the game trying to overcome an early deficit due to a 1st quarter touchdown by the bulldogs.

The panthers’ first points of the game came from a 24 yard field goal from Uriel Herrera in the 2nd quarter. “It was a good feeling [because] it’s a field goal I should always make,” Herrera said about the kick. Even with Jarrett Toy’s touchdown that came in the 3rd quarter thanks to a 29 yard pass from Tanner Arrington, it just wasn’t enough to beat the bulldogs.

This football game marked the last home game in league that the seniors will play or in other words, it was senior night. The senior cheerleaders and football players received special recognition before the game started. “I didn’t have a different mentality going into the game, but there was definitely a different energy,” Senior Mike Sanders said. The theme of the game was “pink out” to honor breast cancer awareness month.

This game caused many seniors to reflect on their 4 year football career at SHS and realize that it’s all coming to an end soon. “It brought a little tear to my eye,” Tristan Baus said with a smirk. New head coach, Kai Smalley, has impacted the seniors during their last season in positive ways. “He has taught me how to lead and be a more outgoing and vocal football player,” Bridger Buckley said.

But the season isn’t over yet. The Panthers will take on the Lake Stevens Vikings this Friday at 7:00 at Lake Stevens High School.
