A Midsummer Night's Dream

Snohomish High School’s spring production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is in the making, and the cast was chosen last Friday.

The play is based on the one written by Shakespeare, classified as a comedy, following the events around the marriage and romances of Athenian characters.

“It’s going to be unique this time because it’s very provocative, the most provocative thing we’ve done at the school. There’s also no leads which is unusual,” said Christopher Kibbey, cast member. “Our director Mr. A and teacher Mrs. Cummings will be playing an actual part in the play."

The production revolves around four characters, Helena, Lysander, Hermia, and Demetrius. Juniors Annabelle Wagar and Christopher Kibbey will be playing the parts of Helena and Demetrius, sophomore Ekaterina Vladimirova as Hermia, and senior Liam Potocsnak will be playing the part of Lysander.

Junior Dylan Smith, cast as a supporting character, Theseus, said that the audition process was “fun but stressful," explaining that “the first auditions are a monologue, and then there are callbacks posted. At callbacks you read scenes with other people to test for chemistry. After that there are more callbacks with script readings, and then the cast list is posted."

There is going to be a lot of work put into this play, and it has only just begun.

“The hardest part is going to be memorizing Shakespeare,” said Wagar. "I’m excited to play the part as the obsessive freak, Helena.”

The performances of the play will take place this spring.
