Snohomish School District blood drive scheduled

The Snohomish School District is holding a blood drive February 1st at the district’s Resource and Service Center, in the Mobile center.

Keep in mind that every pint of blood can save up to three lives, and the collected blood is crucial to keeping a supply ready for medical emergencies, surgeries, and those with life- threatening illnesses. Studies say someone needs blood every three seconds in the United States.

In order to qualify, one must be symptom-free from any cold, flu or sore throat and free of any oral antibiotics for a minimum of three days before donation.  Students over the age of 16 that wish to donate may do so with a parental permission slip.

Everyone eligible is encouraged to donate, and everyone that donated on or before December 7, 2012, is qualified to donate at this drive.

Gayle Richards, the donor representative for the Snohomish area, offered some advice for those nervous or unsure about donating.

“Just try to relax and the way to have a good donation is to make sure you eat a good meal before and drink fluids,” said Richards. “Try to think about the patient on the other end. It’s just a little poke and after that nothing.”

The mobile blood drive is through the Puget Sound Blood Centers, and there is a need for a minimum of 40 people to donate. Appointments run from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. To set up an appointment, call Tami Morse at (360) 563-7285 or send an email to tami [dot] morse [at] sno [dot] wednet [dot] edu.
