Q&A with ASB treasurer candidate Emmalee McNeil

ASB elections are happening on January 14th. Here is what treasurer candidate Emmalee McNeil had to say.

Q: What can you tell me about yourself? What kind of stuff do you do after school?

A: "I play volley ball all the time, year-round. My favorite color is pink, like, I have pink all the time. I’m really involved in Young Life and Wild Life, I’m a Wild Life leader, so I’m hanging out with middle-school kids on Friday nights."

Q: What kind of stuff do you do in Wild Life and Young Life?

A: "Basically you just try to get to know the kids. You run games, and do different lessons. Basically you just try to build relationships."

Q: Do you take part in any clubs around school?

A: "I’m in Panther Pals, RAKE, I was in One Voice for a couple years, I’m in ASB leadership, and National Honor Society."

Q: What would you say qualifies you for the position of treasurer?

A: "I’ve been really passionate about it and I’ve been wanting to do it since freshman year. I love math, and I love being able to organize. I’m super, super organized. I’m just really passionate about it."

Q: What do you picture yourself doing as treasurer?

A: "I don’t know the nitty-gritty details because I haven’t actually gone in and experienced it yet, but from what I’ve heard from Mitch McCully, basically you work in the bookkeeping office, and you’re punching numbers in. You’re just trying to organize balances and keeping track of where the money is going. It means being the student voice in the office every day."

Q: Why take that extra time out of your already busy schedule to work in the bookkeeping office?

A: "I’m going to do it during sixth period, so it’s not like I’m doing it in excess of what I do now. I’ll have to U.S. History next year, but I just really want to do it. I’ll do anything because I’ve just always wanted to do it."Q: How do you feel about running unopposed for the position?

A: "It’s such a relief! I was so stressed out, and then when Haley told me that I was running unopposed I wanted to cry, I was so happy."
