Q&A with ASB secretary candidate Kayla Grundl

ASB elections are happening on January 14th. Here is what secretary candidate Kayla Grundl had to say.

Q: What is the most important leadership quality and how do you represent it?

A: "The most important quality in a leader is doing what you say you are going to do and taking responsibility, because if you don’t do that people will notice. If you are slacking off or not being respectful, people notice that. Also, what’s really important is being positive and having a positive attitude on everything."

Q: What clubs and activities have you done and how do you think they have prepared you?

A: "I’ve been in Panther Pals, LINK, RAKE, and ROSS. I’ve been a class officer for two years and I play volleyball, and I’ve been in a few more clubs. I think it qualifies me because it is really important to be involved if you are going to be an ASB officer, because it makes other people aware. It’s really important to give back to your school what your school gives to you, especially with RAKE and Panther Pals and LINK, just again to spread your positive attitude."

Q: What is your history in student government and as a leader?

A: "I’ve been in leadership for two years, intro last year and advanced this year, and I have been my sophomore and junior class secretary. LINK crew is also really important because it goes to the underclassmen who may not feel as comfortable in the school."

Q: What prompted you to get involved in student leadership?

A: "Mostly my brother, because he was a senior when I was a freshmen. I also saw other ASB officers and how they lead the school and realized you only have four years in high school and I want to make the biggest difference I can."

Q: What advice would you give to future candidates?

A: "Just try your best and don’t be scared or intimidated if you are running against someone. Always work hard at what you do, and if you are thinking about running, just go for it. I know people who regret not running. It’s really fun to lead the school, and even if you lose, there are so many other ways to lead the school."

Q: What do you believe is the largest or most important issue ASB needs to address?

A: "I think one of the most important issues is just to make sure that people feel safe at this school and make the school feel more like a home. I think that ASB officers need to make it so everyone feels comfortable, like they all have someone they can talk to."
