Q&A with ASB secretary candidate Courtney Rogers

ASB elections are happening on January 14th. Here is what secretary candidate Courtney Rogers had to say.

Q: What is the most important leadership quality and how do you represent it?

A: "I believe that the most important leadership quality would be being able to work hard on everything you do, even the little things, and I believe I represent that because I always complete tasks that I set out to do and I always try my best to fulfill all of my obligations."

Q: What clubs and activities qualify you for secretary?

A: "I’m in the ASB leadership class and I’m also a part of Key Club, which is a community service club, and RAKE club and other clubs as well. Outside of school, I’m involved in Volunteers of America, which is another volunteer activity. Also, I’m currently in AP Lang, which is an advanced English class."

Q: What is your history with ASB government and leadership?

A: "I did intro to leadership as a freshmen and was a senator as a sophomore and junior, and I’m in ASB leadership now. In clubs, I don’t hold any sort of office, but I go to all activities and meetings."

Q: What got you started in leadership?

A: "I’ve always had interest in it. I dabbled in middle school because I took a leadership class there, and I always thought it was fun. I saw other people working so hard for our school, and I wanted a chance for me to give back to the school as well and I thought that would be a great way to do it."

Q: What advice would you give to future candidates?

A: "I think that anyone that wants to should run for ASB, because you have one chance to go through high school, so why not put yourself out there? You can’t have that regret of “what if?” To future candidates, try your best and go out there, have fun, and may the best win."

Q: What do you believe is the largest or most important issue ASB must address?

A: "The biggest issue would be having kids enjoy coming to school, enjoy each day. As secretary, it would be letting people know what’s going on so they can go to the game or go to the play, so they can learn more about what the school is doing and what activities are going on so they can enjoy their high school years."
