Lady Panthers come back to beat Mt. Vernon

The Snohomish Varsity Girl’s Basketball team defeated Mount Vernon High School in a 47-34 game Friday night.   The Panthers had the crowd on their feet and by their side, cheering them on the whole time.

“Our biggest challenge will probably be playing without Callie,” said Hannah Berntson, SHS Varsity basketball player, before the game.

Callie Harwood, a player on the team, has been ill and not able to compete.

“The biggest issue for these girls is making sure they still remember Callie and play well without her,” said coach Ken Roberts. “We all care about her and the team cares about her and the coaches do too, but we still need to play well.”

The first score for Snohomish was shot by Madeline Smith, scoring two points. Kayla Lachapelle got fouled and made both of her shots, followed by another two points by Smith. The first quarter came to a close leaving the Panthers down by two.

During the second quarter Smith and Morgan Green worked hard and scored several points for Snohomish. They brought the end of second quarter to a 15-21 score, with Mount Vernon up by six.

By the third quarter the Panthers were making their comeback. Paige Helms, Bailey Armbruster, Green and Smith all scored, and Ellie Otteson shot a 3-pointer. By the end of third quarter the girls were up by five, with a score of 30-25.

The girls continued to score throughout the fourth quarter, and pulled together as a team ending the game with a 47-34 Panther victory.
