ASB Election Results posted

SHS wrapped up finals week with the announcement of the new ASB officers.  Shelby Garrison was elected president with Corey Rogers serving as vice-president, Kayla Grundl, secretary, and Emma McNeil, treasurer.

The newly elected officers were informed in a meeting after school yesterday.  ASB Adviser, Vince Ivelia briefly spoke to the group of candidates and then handed them an envelope with the results.

The candidates were originally told that they would get the results on Tuesday, but weren't told until Thursday because election officials did not want it to distract them from their finals.  "I am relieved to finally find out," said GarrisoNewly elected treasurer, Emma McNeil receives the election results from ASB Adviser Vince Ivelia.n.

This year’s elections were held through an online voting site.  Out-going Vice President Hailey Henderson said, “The election this year went really well.  We had more students vote than last year.”

According to Ivelia 462 students participated in the online elections, about 26 percent of the student population.

Henderson suggested that, “Next year, the officers need to do a better job of advertising the election process and provide students with opportunities to vote at school,” in order to increase participation.

Newly elected Garrison said she would like to incorporate a specific time out of the school day to come vote.  "Some students don't have internet at home, so it's kind of biased to have them vote online," Garrison added.
