Mr. SHS 2012

Soft giggles and low hoots filled Snohomish High School’s Performing Arts Center at this year’s Mr. SHS pageant.  With several strong contenders hoping to steal the title, the competition was sure to be a battle to the end.

“Well… I guess I was pretty much looking for someone with jazz hands, sparkle, and spunk,” senior judge Marin Jacobson said.

The contestants made their first impression on the audience with their introduction.  While some contestants merely strolled across stage, others, like senior Samuel Lince, made rather elaborate entrances.  Lince, accompanied by seniors Tucker McCulloch, Bryce Bergquist, Sean McLaughlin, and Joshua Bauska, was carried out onto the stage, wearing nothing but a pair of jeans and a fur shall.

“I have to say, being carried out onto the stage was pretty memorable,” Lice said.

For the talent portion of the competition each contestant had the chance to impress the judges by performing an act that showcased their special talent. An array of talents, including a rap performed by junior Kyle Tisdel, a hip hop dance performed by senior T.J Cha, and a dry curling game performed by junior Jacob Hammond, were showcased during the event.  A “dangerous and daring” act was performed by senior Erick Titterness, as he succeeded in going off a six inch bike jump.

“The wind from the PAC whipped through my hair, and I peddled my bike faster and faster until I finally went off that giant jump.  It was a moment I will never ever forget,” senior Erik Titterness said.

As the competition came to an end, anticipated murmurs floated through the judges panel as the final votes were being counted.

“I had my guess as to who would win, but to tell you the truth, I really didn’t know who would take home the title,” junior judge Madeline Bye said.

After a most memorable night, sophomore Joseph Proffit was awarded the title of Mr. SHS.

Proffit said, “I was just shocked, I mean I am only a sophomore, so it was great to be awarded with such a great honor.”
