Jam Club's live performance

Every Thursday, the Jam Club of Snohomish High School rehearses and the Farmer’s Market of Snohomish helps local businesses and entrepreneurs promote their products. On October 4, the charm and entertainment of these two groups were combined when Jam Club put on a live performance (sans microphones and amplifiers) at the market.

This endeavor was the culmination of the hard work of Jam Club, which has recently grown in its number of members. It unofficially began more than seven years ago in a coffee house just across the street from where they performed at the market, with just a few students rocking out after school.

Over this past summer, the members of Jam Club had the opportunity to perform at the Evergreen State Fair. They are already beginning to work on a new venture that will take place at the end of the school year. On June 8 of 2013, Jam Club will be hosting a benefit concert in the PAC where they will be performing the entire album “Abbey Road” by the Beatles. Proceeds will go to the Snohomish Food Bank.

Nelson Green, a senior at SHS, has been a member of Jam Club since his freshman year. Playing his acoustic guitar during the performance and lending his vocal talents, Green showed off only a small portion of his mad musical skills. He also has the ability to play a ukulele, a bass, an upright bass, and the piano.

For Green, Jam Club is a place where “everyone comes out to just play music.”

Abby Smith, a sophomore at SHS and a member for the past year, enjoys the fast-paced environment of the club in regards to how quickly she was able to learn.

“Noodling around and just being random with our instruments,” Smith said, is one of the aspects of Jam Club that she enjoys most.
