A surplus of royalty at Snohomish

On Monday, September 17, ten senior girls from Snohomish High School were informed that they had been voted into the Homecoming Court. Lindsey Shackelford, student body president of SHS, was not invited to join them.

There was a tie between Shackelford and another princess, but neither the principal nor the ones who counted the votes would disclose who the other girl was. It was decided that there could be 11 princesses on Homecoming Court this year, but Shackelford was not contacted until Thursday morning.

Shackelford said that “they just forgot my name” when the announcements listed the people in court.

Shackelford had already gone dress shopping, perusing dresses that were short and colorful. The next day, she was notified by Dr. Porter that she was a princess and was already behind. She would have to purchase a white dress and plan what to do during the Coronation assembly that will take place on Monday, October 1.

Now, although Shackelford is a part of the top five princesses, she still sometimes wonders, “Why am I up here?”
