Auditions bring an early Christmas

Hopeful performers filled the halls of the PAC on September 13, where the second day of the audition process for “White Christmas” began. The sign-up sheets, one for each of the available days, were so packed with names that auditions will run on September 17 as well.

There were many repeat actors and singers, and a number who have been a part of every production at Snohomish High School for the past couple of years. Once the title of the musical became known last spring, waves of new faces joined the crowd of drama kids who are trying out for a place in the cast.

Christopher Kibbey, a junior at SHS, has received the lead role in the last two productions. Widely known as “Kibbey”, this vibrant performer was beyond excited when he discovered what musical was chosen for the annual winter production.

“‘White Christmas’ is one of my all-time favorite movies” Kibbey said.

Just before entering the stage for his audition, he shared that he was performing a monologue that he had composed and singing “The More I See You” by Michael Bublé.

Once the auditions are complete, the cast will be chosen and rehearsal for the musical will begin in a matter of a few days.

The opening night of the musical is set for November 30, with five performances taking place in the following weeks.

Karl Akesson, the drama advisor and the director of the play, says that “the two and a half hours you spend with us will change your life, and I’m not kidding.”
