5th Avenue honors SHS pit orchestra

The SHS orchestra was given an honorable mention ward by the Fifth Avenue Theatre in Seattle. This is the first year that SHS has entered the contest.

“The Honorable mention award is when the Fifth Avenue Theatre opens up to different high schools from all around that have acting, choir, and/or some form of band class. Then if you choose to, you can enter in one of their competitions so your acting, choir, or in our case, orchestra can come to perform to possibly earn an award,” choir teacher Jaci Cummings said.

The orchestra is made up of 13 students. This was the first time Cummings had ever entered one of her band classes to travel to the Fifth Avenue Theatre in New York. “Before we went, we had only practiced together every day after school for one month! Usually people who enter prepare for long periods of time,” said Cummings.
