Soccer ends season with 1-2 loss

The SHS boys soccer team suffered a tough loss to Bellarmine Prep at last night’s playoff game.  Despite Junior Juan Machuca-Garin’s goal, and excruciatingly hard work by the team, the boys were unfortunately unable to pull through, and lost 1-2.

As the final game of the season, no one on the team took this game more serious than the departing seniors, “It doesn’t last long enough, I have played for four years and I am not ready to give up quite yet!” stated Senior Reilly Cross.  Although multiple seniors on the team are going on to play in college, the loss was a cruel reminder of how nothing lasts forever.

During preparation for the game the boys focused on hard work, and an unstoppable mindset.  As they prepared their bodies for battle, they also kept an eye on what their enemy, Bellarmine Prep, was doing, “Our coach actually sent a scout out to see how our opponents were doing, then we would practice the skills they were practicing, and try to pinpoint their weaknesses.” explained Senior Lucas Martinson.

Close to the starting seconds of the game, the SHS boys soccer coach Dan Pingery stated his famous catch phrase, “No excuses no regrets”, and wished his team the best of luck.  As with any sports coach, Pingery always seemed to have an inspirational speech up his sleeve, “He tells us if we want to win next week, then we have to win tonight.” stated Cross.

As their season comes to an end, the boys soccer team remembers both their triumphs and failures; but most of all they remember their team, and all they have been through together.
