SHS ROTC honors soldiers on Memorial Day

SHS ROTC took part in a 21 Gun Salute to veterans and military family cemeteries on Memorial Day, May 28.

The salute on Memorial Day will have seven cadets from Snohomish High School’s ROTC travel to Everett, Snohomish, and Monroe cemeteries in honor of lost veterans and military family members. ROTC will present our colors at 12:00 p.m. to commemorate the American War dead. Senior Andrew Baggett said “I have never done something like this before.”

Another ROTC member, Senior Alex Hopkins said, “SHS has a very good ROTC program, it’s number one out of three marine core programs in the state. And it’s the biggest on the West Coast.”

It’s not for everyone though,  as Baggett said, “It takes a certain type of person to be in ROTC. You have to enjoy wearing a uniform and not bother being yelled at all the time.”Both Hopkins and Baggett both agree that it teaches great self discipline.
