Panther Band plays for USO fundraiser

On May 22, the SHS Panther Band played songs in honor of Memorial Day at the New Castle Golf course. This event, called the Red, White and Blue Classic, was a fundraiser for the USO. It is a golf tournament to raise money for their cause of supporting American troops. Celebrities, athletes, and wounded veterans come to play golf and hear festive music. This is the USO’s main fundraiser.

Band teacher Pete Wilson said, “This year the band was asked to play more music than last year because they liked us so much.” He also state the band was provided with lunch, although no other funds were given to the band for this event.

Junior Madison Cole said, “It made me feel like I was a part of something bigger than myself.”  The band played songs like the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful.” And while they played there were golf carts decorated with patriotic décor driving between the band and the crowd. The band has played at this event for two years.
