SHS Students to Perform at State Level

Ten SHS performing arts students will be going on to All-State or All-Northwest performing ensembles after auditioning with a very competitive pool of musicians across the state.

Senior Jacob Ragland, juniors Kevin DeFord and Adelaide Grass, and freshman Brady Lierman made it into the Washington Music Educators Association All-State Symphonic Choir. Senior Emily Ovall was accepted into the All-Northwest Treble choir, making this her third year in a row as a statewide competitor and second year as an All-National singer.

“It was so much fun!” said Ovall. “My family and I flew to Florida for the National Honor choir last year because it was in Disney World…I was told that I was the first person in Snohomish to go to the National Honor choir.”

Seniors Samuel Fletcher and Ben Medranda made it into the Washington Music Educators Association All-State Concert Band as well as sophomores Nick John and Kenny Winkle. Sophomore Katriel Kirk had successfully competed for a position in the National Association for Music Education All-Northwest Band.

Both band and choir performers were asked to submit electronic auditions with the respective instructors and representatives present during the recording. The names of those accepted were announced last Tuesday.

The All-State performers will travel to Portland, Oregon during President’s Day weekend next year. Ovall and Kirk will also be traveling to separate events during this school year.
