SHS Defeats Mountlake Terrace Hawks 47-6 in Near-Shutout

In a near-complete shutout, the SHS varsity football team secured a win Friday night, defeating the Mountlake Terrace Hawks 47-6.

Following the 58th annual Serpentine parade and pep rally, the Panther players started the game strong, with senior running back Keegan Stich pulling first down after first down for the Panther offense, while junior Tyler Massena scored two touchdowns before halftime. At the half, the Hawks were not on the board, with the Panthers winning 27-0.

Dan Hudson, a sales consultant for Bickford Motors in Snohomish, ran the annual Ford Mustang giveaway at halftime, where seniors Sam Lambert, Adrianna Wheeler, Braden Hammond, Vreni Todd, and Abbi Stempak were awaiting their shot at a red 2017 Mustang.

After Todd, Wheeler, and Stempak were unsuccessful in triggering the car alarm, Hammond took home the Mustang for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year.

Also at halftime, the homecoming court of 2017 was coronated in front of the audience of SHS students and alumni, as well as Snohomish community members.

Senior Araceli Daza, who was crowned homecoming queen on Monday, October 16 during the coronation assembly, gave a speech during a firework show put on by Entertainment Fireworks, before the company had been given the signal by activities advisor Vince Ivelia.

Daza's speech highlighted her time with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and marching band at Snohomish, as well as speaking to the Panther alumni, saying "Thank you for the school spirit you show every day."

Daza was treated to a chorus of “Happy Birthday” by the crowd of Panther fans at the finale of the firework show and her speech.

In the second half, the Panthers achieved another two touchdowns, bringing their final score to 47 points. The Hawks got their first touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Panther alumni were also honored at the game, with names and graduating years being called out during the game at time outs and between quarters.

The homecoming football game rounded out homecoming week at SHS, with the final event taking place on Saturday, October 21 in the form of the homecoming dance, put on by the SHS FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapter.
