SHS Defeated by Glacier Peak in Annual Rivalry 28-14

In their six-year rivalry, the SHS Panthers lost Friday night to the Glacier Peak Grizzlies 28-14, making Glacier Peak undefeated since 2011.

Coming off an away victory against Marysville-Pilchuck the week before the school year started, Snohomish was adamant to give the Grizzlies a fight, securing a touchdown in the first three minutes of the game by RB senior Keegan Stich.

Stich has been on the varsity team since he was a freshman at SHS.

Junior Langdon Orgill, Snohomish’s new varsity quarterback, said that the Panthers “fought the whole time,” and that “it really starts to matter [next week] against Lynnwood.” Orgill also stated that his team is going to “keep working and just do what we do.”

Senior Caleb Sutherland led the Panther defense alongside senior Jaden McClure to keep the Grizzlies at bay, however Glacier Peak picked up two touchdowns before the end of the first half, going into halftime 14-7 with Glacier Peak in the lead.

“We started off hot in the first quarter,” says Sutherland. “I think we’ll be able to rebound off of this.”

During halftime, the SHS Panther band, led by seniors Karl Berner, Araceli Daza, Katelyn Randal, and Alessandro Squadrito, performed their marching routine that they began practicing in early August during their band camp.

In the third quarter, Glacier Peak picked up yet another touchdown, with SHS trailing 21-7.

After another successful touchdown by GP in the fourth quarter, the Panthers fought back with one of their own, bringing the final score to 28-14, with the Grizzlies securing the victory.

The annual rivalry game between the Panthers and the Grizzlies is one that many dare not miss, and this year there was more incentive than ever to come to the game, with food trucks from Snohomish’s local Cathouse Pizza and a free face painting booth.

The Panthers are scheduled to play the Lynnwood Chimeras next Friday at Veterans’ Memorial Stadium in Snohomish at 7pm.
