Girls' Basketball Finishes Third in State after Defeating Seattle Prep and Lincoln

The SHS girls' basketball team took home bronze on Saturday, March 4 at the WIAA Hardwood Classic.

Through continued rigor and determination, the girls were successful in defeating the Seattle Prep Panthers and the Lincoln Abes in order to solidify their spot in the state.

This is the second year in a row that girls' basketball made it to the Tacoma Dome, finishing second in the state last year to the Central Valley Bears.

This state competition marked the end of a season and an era for seniors Quinn Otteson, Madi van Sligterhorst, Cassidy McGee, and Katie Brandvold, as this was their last game of their high school career.

In their first game of the Hardwood Classic, the Panthers pulled off a dominant victory over Seattle Prep with a final score of 53-36.

Otteson showed determination and perseverance by making a three point shot just a minute before the end of the first quarter, proving to be a role model for her team for the remainder of the game.

Sophomore Maya DuChesne helped her team to secure a 19-point lead at the half thanks to several free throw shots, which she would demonstrate through the rest of the game. Sophomore Kyra Beckman also managed to maneuver past the Seattle Prep line to secure several shots during the third quarter.

Otteson and the senior players pass the torch onto juniors Sam Beeman, Morgan Marshall, and Lexi Sunagel to head the team next year.

Spring sports begun at SHS early in March, and will be covered in the Sports section of the Arrowhead, which you can find here.
